Tasting notes
The Fratelli Alessandria 2020 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno shows balance and elegance with a pretty succession of wild fruit aromas, tart cherry and blue flower. This wine offers an especially delicate interpretation of Nebbiolo with fine tannins and a streamlined mouthfeel. It should be nice to see how it fleshes out in five to 10 years.

Pouring a jeweled ruby color, the 2020 Barolo San Lorenzo Di Verduno is a bit more reserved on opening, with notes of fresh red cherries, then takes a darker mineral tone aromatically, with a hint of black truffle, fresh crushed flowers, and fresh earth. The palate reveals more depth and richness while being light on its feet, with sweet tannins, more sapidity, a mouthwatering mineral tone, and a delicate glycerol richness. It has an approachable feel and is going to have a wide drinking window over the next 10-15 years.
The 2020 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno is a pretty wine for this site, albeit it a bit quieter than most years. Black cherry, new leather, licorice, lavender, dried herbs and gravel are nicely woven together. In 2020, the San Lorenzo shows its typical savory, mineral profile but possesses less richness and tannic heft than is typical of most vintages.
Verduno. Lustrous and just mid ruby. Embracing, ripe red fruit on the nose with ethereal balsamic hints and a suggestion of eucalyptus and dark earth. Succulent fruit that is still a little closed. Generous yet focused and with finely ground, almost aromatic tannins. Great length and full spread on the finish, but still needs time. (WS)
