Tasting notes
The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with lifted, minerally red fruit that has a spring in its step. Neatly integrated oak. The palate offers grainy tannins, slightly candied in style, with a touch of sweet coconut infusing the red fruit that dovetails into a peppery finish. Not quite the calibre of a Grand Cru you expect but it should give a decade of drinking pleasure. It just needs to look up "elegance" in the dictionary. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru is lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, Indian spies, rose petals, violets, orange zest and loamy soil. Full-bodied, fleshy and layered, it's rich and concentrated, with a sweet core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, expansive finish.
This too is exuberantly fresh with its nose of Asian-style tea, hoisin, star anise and plum. The rich yet sleek and intense middleweight plus flavors possess an even finer texture thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the notably mineral-inflected finish that deliver even better depth and persistence. This youthfully austere effort should also amply repay extended keeping.
