Score 95/100 · Drink 2021-2040, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Sep 2021

From one of the Barossa's oldest vineyards, Langmeil's 2018 The Freedom 1843 Shiraz lives up to its pedigree. Aged in French oak hogsheads (44% new), it delivers bold, delicately lifted aromas of blackberries, grilled plums and vanilla on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is velvety and plush, loaded with ripe tannins without seeming overdone or heavy. The lengthy finish adds savory hints of black olive and licorice, adding enough food-friendly complexity to keep it interesting sip after sip. It's a lovely counterpoint to the Pure Eden Shiraz of the same vintage.
