Tasting notes
The 2014 Freundstück "GG" is pure, fresh and flinty on the intense nose. Lush and elegant on the palate, this is a tight and powerful dry Riesling with grip and salts. Very elegant, lush and pure, with mature flavors and a certain astringency on the finish. Ascetic. Tasted in Deidesheim in December 2019.

Given 20 months' élevage in large cask, this features ripely scented, succulently juicy purple plum and white peach. Polished and with underlying firmness that suits its near-absolute (indeed, not even measurable) dryness, this also projects pungently aromatic and coolingly stimulating hedge flowers and green herbs, finishing with a saliva-inducing influx of mineral salts. Infectious juiciness and lift (despite 12.9 percent alcohol) render this animating and refreshing.
Relatively pale. Not big but there is some savour and depth to the nose. Bone dry but not austere. There is some real interest here. Confident and impressive with a distinct tingle on the finish. The structure suggests longevity too. (JR)
