2020 Laussac

Another terrific Castillon is the 2020 Château De Laussac, which shows the elegant, balanced, classic style of the vintage nicely. Giving up lots of red and black fruits, some chalky minerality, medium body, ripe tannins, and complex notes of chalky minerality and loamy soils, it's perfect for drinking over the coming 7-8 years or so. It's a rock-solid bottle of wine.

The 2020 Château de Laussac has a lively nose with brambly red fruit, blackberry and cedary aromas, quite open with an appealing sense of purity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, perhaps not quite "kicking on" towards the finish that has a little bitterness. But bottle maturity should knit this together.

The 2020 Laussac shows good energy and brightness in its lifted aromatics, but vegetal notes are impossible to look past. This is a less concentrated style than the Cuvée Sacha, and one I think is more successful. Even so, the angularity that is present really should be addressed.
