Coming from a single parcel in the chassis region of Crozes and brought up in tronconique wooded tanks with 10% new barrels, the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Thalabert reveals ripe blackberries, smoked earth, pepper, black olive, and some meaty notes. It's medium-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. While it offers ample pleasure today, give it a few years. Drink 2028-2038. It is always a great tasting with Caroline Frey at Paul Jaboulet Aîné, and the wines showed beautifully across the board. The style here continues to emphasize purity and freshness, with a focus on vibrancy and precision. Starting with the 2021 vintage, the Hermitage La Chapelle wines were split off under the new Domaine de la Chapelle label and brand, marking a major step for the Frey family in differentiating the brands. Paul Jaboulet Aîné continues to produce a strong lineup across the Northern Rhône, including Condrieu Les Grands Amandiers, Crozes-Hermitage Thalabert and Domaine de Roure, Saint Joseph La Croix des Vignes, Côte Rôtie Les Pierrelles, and Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre. The newer Cornas Reynard cuvée, first made in 2020, continues to impress. Hermitage La Maison Bleue rounds out the range.

Wafting from the glass with a lively, elegant bouquet of dark berries, spices, licorice and herbs, the 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert possesses a moderately weighted, satiny and ample palate with a delicately juicy core of fruit, despite a slightly introverted character and an austere finish. Fermented 30% in wooden tronconic tanks, the rest in foudres, and matured in barrels, 15% new, this is a real classic.

This proves that Crozes-Hermitage can be a truly great wine. A wealth of black fruit, smoke, black pepper and raw meat aromas. At once bold, structured and elegantly balanced on the medium- to full-bodied palate, where the interplay of fleshiness and fine tannins is stunning. Very long, stony finish with notes of licorice and blackberries. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Ripe black fruit, licorice and cedar tones introduce the refined 2022 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert. Medium-bodied, round and elegant, it bundles lively freshness with gentle resonance on the savory finish. Although the 2022 comes with secure aging potential, it can also be approached right after release.
