Tasting notes
Both nose and palate deliver a terrific meld of bittersweetly floral notes (iris and gentian), fresh apple and pear, along with a sweet-saline, raw-scallop-like savor. The palate offers a seductive combination of delicacy and creaminess that perfectly complement the wine’s inner-mouth perfume and fruitfulness. An influx of fresh lime serves to enhance refreshment and an undertone of stone lends intrigue on a bell-clear, focused finish that veritably milks the salivary glands.

Bottled with AP number 123 19, the 2017 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Golden Capsule) –Auction– is highly refined and precise on the deep yet clear and aromatic nose with its perfectly ripe stone fruit aromas that intermix with slight scents of slate. This Spätlese is like a perfume—subtle but subversively intense and super exciting. Concentrated, salty-piquant and highly precise, with perfectly lush and aromatic fruit based on 100% healthy grapes, this is an amazing Riesling Spätlese—perhaps the finest you can find along the Mosel. It's so well-defined, salty and piquant but also intense, if not rich and concentrated, with acidity like a laser beam. Tasted in April 2019.
