Tasting notes
Smoky black fruits, graphite, chalky mineral, and spicy nuances all emerge from the 2022 Château Destieux, a plush, upfront, heavenly Saint-Emilion revealing sweet tannins, a soft, supple mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Based on two-thirds Merlot and the balance equal parts Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 70% new oak, give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

The 2022 Destieux has a typically powerful, smudged, oaky nose that lacks freshness. The palate is very ripe, candied and perhaps a little fresher than the nose implies, with a clean finish.
Very much on brand, estate signature, good quality, intense, grilled oak and tar, chocolate shavings, liquorice, baked plum, intense and super-charged but plenty of blackberry and crème de cassis fruit alongside.
66% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. Cask sample. Quite deep crimson. Heady, very ripe nose. Lusciously sweet and smooth start – but then with a little greenness rather than true refreshment. Quite flashy rather than truly satisfying. Finishes a little suddenly. (JR)
