Tasting notes
The 2022 Montviel offers blackberry and black truffle scents, with a touch of tobacco coming through with time. The palate is framed by pliant tannins, good concentration, quite powerful, with layers of black fruit laced with cracked black pepper and clove on the finish. This will need time. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Château Montviel is beautifully structured, offering dark currants, iron, tobacco, graphite, and deep minerality. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, it has ripe tannins and impressive richness. Vinified in concrete and fermented in oak barrels, then aged for 16 months in 100% new French oak, this will evolve well for 20+ years. Total production: 967 cases.
The 2022 Montviel has an open and expressive bouquet with black cherry, licorice and graphite scents. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy and silky smooth with pliant tannins and a smear of dark chocolate and mocha toward the finish. This will be ready to rock with just a couple of years in bottle. Fine.
A kick of sweet grilled sandalwood on the first nose, with fleshy black fruit alongside, fennel, anise and cloves, good quality, high energy. 35hl/h yield, Michel Rolland consultant, Pere Vergé Vignobles, Henri Parent owner and director, 10ha of vines
