Score 90-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2017
(two barrels made, or half of a normal crop; Morey picked these vines on September 19 with 12.5% potential alcohol and chaptalized the wine to 13%): Ripe yellow peach and smoky oak on the nose; Morey says he will fine this wine to eliminate the element of surmaturité . Very concentrated but not heavy or particularly sweet, with its very ripe, slightly exotic mirabelle and lichee flavors framed by surprising acidity. Very round, voluminous, fine-grained wine, finishing with a tannic impression and some finishing warmth. Morey made it clear that this is not his favorite style of Bâtard.
