Tasting notes
55% Mourvèdre, 45% Syrah. 18 months in oak barrels. Deep cherry red. Gloriously scented with savoury dark fruit and a wild garrigue freshness. Tarry too. Super-fine tannins, elegant and with immense length. Very fine indeed. (JH)

65% Grenache, 35% Syrah. Much less expressive than their Tête de Bélier on the nose. Creamy and sweet at first, turning to a bitter juniper and olive flavour on the finish. Chunky structure. Dense black fruit. (RH)
The 2016 Pic Saint Loup La Closerie du Pic, a blend of Syrah and Grenache, features striking aromas of crushed stone to go along with the familiar cola and plum notes so typical of this estate's style. It's full-bodied and softly tannic but concentrated, with more freshness, energy and length than the entry-level wines. It should drink well for up to a decade.
