Tasting notes
The 2012 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses has a delightful, floral bouquet with dried rose petals infusing the red cherry and fresh strawberry scents. The palate is well structure with gritty tannins, fine tension and symmetry on the finish that is very appealing. Nothing over the top here – just finely made, approachable Burgundy wine that I suspect will age far better than many will give it. Drink now-2020. (20% vendange entier): Bright medium red. Aromas of strawberry and raspberry complicated by earth tones; less showy and high-pitched than the Lavieres, as the soil here has a higher clay content. Then refined on the palate, displaying good precision to the flavors of red berries, flowers and spices. At once dense and polite on the back end, lifted by a hint of citrus zest and framed by late-arriving tannins.
