Cask sample. Bright mid crimson. Pretty direct nose without much subtlety but some headline-grabbing sweet fruit – almost too sweet – with edgy acidity too that's not quite integrated yet. Might this always be a tad sickly? (JR)

The 2019 Côte de Nuits Au Leurey originates from a site next to Clos de Marechale, populated by vines planted in 1937. It offers raspberry and cranberry fruit on the nose, light woodland scents percolating through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit on the entry, quite structured for a Côte de Nuits, and displays gentle grip on the finish. Fine.
