Tasting notes
A certified organic wine, the Cordero di Montezemolo 2018 Barolo Enrico VI is a wine of impressive length and intensity. There is a uniquely bright or lifted quality to the bouquet that draws its energy from bright red and purple fruits, aniseed, ginger, rusty nail and candied violets. This is a medium-weight Barolo with above-average fruit weight and a very long mouthfeel. It is poised to improve beautifully with cellar age.

The 2018 Barolo Enrico VI is going to need at least a few years to come together. Inky dark fruit, lavender, spice, leather and gravel infuse the 2018 with quite a bit of depth. The 2018 is a rich, potent wine packed with fruit. Today, the 2018 is angular and not totally put together. There is good depth but ultimately, the 2018 feels disjointed. Bruising tannins are impossible to look past.
Castiglione Falletto. Grapes come from the Villero cru. 13 to 15 days on the skins. Aged in barriques, of which one-third each were first, second and third passage. After a year the wine is racked off into large 20-hl oak casks. Ageing in oak is never longer than 19 months, after which the wine ages further in bottle. Mid to deep lustrous ruby. Perfumed, floral and lifted with hints of dried cherry. Quite the charmer! Sweet, ripe and youthful fruit matched by supple acidity that melts into the wine on the finish. Delicious chewy tannins.
