Tasting notes
The 2013 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru has improved since I tasted it from barrel. It has a lifted, floral bouquet that has commendable purity, touches of blue fruit emerging with time with cloves and bay leaf. The palate is fresh and taut, rather chalky in texture with a Rugiens-like finish in terms of structure. Give it another year. Tasted at Goedhuis & Co.'s annual Burgundy tasting in London.

Muted, a bit green and grumpy on the nose, but there’s excellent vigour on the palate. Complex and spicy, with very well-rounded tannin, though a bit vanilla-sweet at the end. (AH)
The 2013 Pommard 1er Cru les Pezerolles lost 70% of its crops due to flowering and of course, hail, during the growing season. It has a light, slightly earthy and introspective bouquet at the moment, as if still recovering from that trauma. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly chalky tannins and a keen thread of acidity. It just cuts away a little abruptly toward the finish. Drink this over the next 6-8 years.
