The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru, which was the first parcel Jadot picked this vintage, was missing a little intensity and mineralité compared to its peers when I encountered it from barrel. The balanced palate offers an attractive peach and orange pith entry, but it needs a little more nervosité and energy to deliver on the finish. Not bad at all, though not my pick of Jadot’s Pulignys.

Aromas of pear, yellow orchard fruit, fresh pastry and orange oil introduce the 2018 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes (Domaine Louis Jadot), a medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping wine that's among the richer, more powerful premiers crus in the range this year. Textural and multidimensional, it will offer a broad drinking window.
Bordering Meursault to the east with chalky clay soils. Gentle pressing before fermentation and maturation for 15 months in oak, a third of which is new. Waxy, spicy and creamy on the nose. Bruised, ripe fruits throughout, with a peppery warmth. A nice tang of acid but this is juicy and full bodied. (TP)

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
