Tasting notes
44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot. Aged for 22 months in oak (30% new). Cassis liqueur, with mint and pine giving a forest-floor complexity on the nose. Yielding tannins that make this incredibly moreish, with youthful, exuberant fruit that gives huge pleasure. Long, evolving finish that allows the forest floor to get more expressive. The best Quintet I can remember tasting. Supreme! (RH)

Delightfully mature black cherry, liquorice and blackcurrant with furry tannins and fresh acid. There's an animal, leathery note on the finish. Plenty of youthful fruitiness on the palate. (RH)
The flavorsome 2019 Quintet retains the trademark Mount Mary elegance, but with a more muscular feel. Dense blackberry and mulberry aromas with gravelly highlights are lifted by a strong seam of dried herbs. There's great upfront impact with chewy tannins and chalky acidity in the driving seat, underpinning a sinewy, cassis-scented finish of excellent length. This is destined to age well.
The 2019 Quintet was served to us at dinner in Yarraglen this week, and it looked impossibly fresh and red fruited on that night. In the lineup here today, the warm season has given the wine a density and gravitas, but it does it with a surge of buoyancy and density at the same time. The wine is black-fruited as opposed to red here, but with ruby inflections. It has a super pleasurable feel in the mouth. 13% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.
