Tasting notes
The 2017 Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling "GG" is super clear, precise and flinty on the bright and complex, very stony-mineral nose with its concentrated fruit aromas. Rich and round on the palate, this is a full-bodied, very juicy and fruit-intense as well as refined Pettenthal with a long and structured, still somewhat bitter finish. Needs time. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020.

Pungent evocations of wood smoke, kumquat and lemon zest set the tone for a piquantly gripping, highly stimulating albeit austere impression. The wine’s firm feel and pithy sense of concentration only enhance its formidable grip. A piercingly penetrating finish sets the seal on a severe yet undeniably impressive performance. I would give this some time in bottle before popping a second cork.
Almost oily on the nose it's so ripe! Cor! This is a festival of ripeness. Exotica and really opulent florality. The acidity seems a bit lower than in some wines, with a bit of chew on the end. (JR)
A little reticent on the nose at first. It then impresses with a generous flavour comprising plenty of fruit and a substantial dose of fresh green mint which keeps expanding towards the finish. The acidity is mouth-wateringly juicy, residual sugar noticeable. (MS)
