Tasting notes
The generic 2020 Riesling Kabinett S represents 80% Oberemmeler Rosenberg and 20% Krettnacher Altenberg. Restrained bittersweetness of lime and apple prominently marked by peel and seed inform a polished, buoyant palate, and a satisfyingly juicy, subtly sweet finish displays a glistening of wet stone. (The S in this wine’s name refers to “Silberberg,” a one-time reference to the relevant sector of Krettnach.)

What a difference one letter (S, probably standing for Selection) makes. With its rich fragrance of ripe yellow fruit and mango it couldn’t be more different on the nose from the delicate appley fragrance of the straight Saar Kabinett. It’s also far more viscous and sweeter on the palate, with quite a tropical-fruit slant. (MS)
Tasted as a sample in late March, the 2020 Saar Riesling Kabinett "S" is from the Krettnacher Altenberg and Euchariusberg. It is precise, pure and fresh on the elegant and remarkably complex bouquet. Round and juicy on the palate, this is a light, lush, fine and elegant Kabinett from what the VDP likes to define as Silberberg (thus the "S" in the wine name).
