The 2016 Riesling Pettenthal is clear, deep and pure on the nose, with perfectly ripe and concentrated white fruit and flinty stone aromas. Full-bodied, lush and generous on the palate, this is a pure, piquant and salty Pettenthal with an intense and generous finish. This is well-concentrated Riesling with fine tannins and a creamy finish.

This is the very acceptable nose of spontaneous fermentation, as ambient yeasts have produced a delightfully fresh fragrance with herbaceous notes and green mint leaves. The exhilarating character of these aromas is further heightened by a cool, salty tang on the palate. Subtle citrus fruit served on a generous texture completes a rewarding Grosses Gewächs experience with a long finish. (MS)
Smoke and crushed stone accents to a nose dominated by site-typical orange, tangerine and white peach anticipate a tactile sense of mineral impingement on the long, vibrantly interactive finish of this polished, abundantly juicy offering. There is a striking juxtaposition of palpable density with relative alcoholic levity, and an irresistible alliance of luscious fruit with intensely mineral site-typicity in the form of myriad stony, smoky and saline elements – phenomena that widespread German Riesling ideology would have you believe are incompatible.
