The 2020 Mercurey Vieilles Vignes, which comes from 70-year-old vines and sees 25% new oak, offers juicy red cherries, cranberry and strawberry scents on the nose. The oak is neatly integrated. The palate is medium-boded with dark berry fruit mixed with clove on the entry. Fine weight here, yet it is the elegance that really marks this out on the finish, the sapidity that says…one more sip? Of course you will.
Mid crimson. Smoky, a touch reductive. Very dry texture – attractively so. Serious, refined. Needs time. Restrained dark-red fruit is in perfect harmony with the structure. (JH)
