The 2017 Kirchenstück G.C. is bright, pure and deep on the ripe and concentrated, spicy nose. Very intense and salty on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and juicy yet pure and linear Riesling with a lingering salinity and sensual fruit concentration. Deep, dense, complex and very long with a finessed power, this is an impressive and persistently salty Kirchenstück that will age terrifically well but is the most accessible Kirchenstück I have had at this early stage. Tasted in Wachenheim in December 2019.

A site that combines diverse geology and has the ability to consistently make wines that are complete and balanced. Starts out with attractive fresh peach and green mango with light creamy aromas, a fine grapefruit citrus note and fresh white flowers. Such purity. The palate has a very succulent, very vibrant and seamless feel. It is so integrated, so balanced and so complete. Very complex and very concentrated. This is a standout. From biodynamically grown grapes. Try from 2023 and for many years hence.

A wealth of musky and sweetly scented flowers – iris, peony, narcissus and lily – soars from the glass, accompanied by scents of ripe white peach and high-toned green herbal essences. The palate impression is seductively creamy and introduces that same sweet-saline, scallop-like savor harbored by the corresponding Pechstein. The resultant layering of cooling green herbal essences, effusive inner-mouth floral perfume and mouthwatering alliance of mineral and animal elements is already breathtakingly beautiful, and the soaring finish seems as reluctant to let up as I was to part with my glass and depart the Bürklin-Wolf cellars. Here’s hoping there is enough of this that I can taste it post-bottling!
