The Inama 2018 Colli Berici Carmenere Riserva Capital "O" (with only 2,413 bottles produced) represents a selection of fruit from the Oratorio di San Lorenzo Vineyard with southeast-facing slopes in the Colli Berici. The wine undergoes 50% new oak and 50% neutral oak in order to harness the natural ripeness and softness of the grape. This approach is also used to preserve the mint and herbal fragrances that this variety is known for. This vintage also shows an especially earthy character, showing lots of exotic spice, with soft tannins and luscious fruit layering.

After a slow start on the nose, the palate perks up with lovely peppery notes and aniseed, followed by graphite notes on the length. It's a sizeable wine, with a bit of warmth to finish but lovely ready complexity. (RH)

The 2018 Oratorio di San Lorenzo Riserva is reserved yet wonderfully floral, almost dusty in character, with pepper-tinged strawberries and roses offset by a hint of sweet spice. This is silky and pure in style with a pretty inner sweetness complicated by a core of brisk acidity as perfumed inner florals and depths of dark red fruit settle upon the senses. It tapers off lightly structured with sweet tannins yet finishes long, leaving a staining of tart wild berries and savory spice to taper off slowly. While quite finessed, an underlying power here will promise a long and steady maturation. That said, while already in the bottle for two years, the 2018 is still almost a year away from being released.

The 2018 Oratorio di San Lorenzo Riserva is very pretty and dusty in character with understated cherry and florals, yet it gains richness in the glass. This is powerful yet wrapped up tight in its youthful state with perfumed inner florals and depths of dark red fruits. It leaves the palate structured and finishes long, yet it remains fresh through juicy acidity, with hints of ginger and peppery florals that linger. This is a more finessed yet still-potent San Lorenzo Riserva in the making.
