The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux unfurls in the glass with notes of cherries, wild berries, candied peel, burning embers and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and succulent, with an ample and juicy core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins.

Mid crimson. Sweetness of both oak and red fruit on the nose. Chewy but the tannins are finer here than on the Vieilles Vignes. Quite powerful and dry textured at the moment. Embryonic compared with many wines in this open vintage. (JH)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux 1er Cru comes from 50-year vines and matures in 100% new oak. It has quite an ebullient bouquet with ample black cherry and boysenberry fruit, quite floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with good density, quite pastille-like in terms of purity with just a little heaviness from the oak towards the grippy finish. Give this several years in bottle.
