The 1974 Climens has a light barley sugar nose with a touch of petrol. Decent definition. The palate is light and is missing some cohesion, tapering towards the mandarin tinged finish. Bottles need to be drunk up. Tasted April 2009 at Château Climens.

Clean and very sweet nose. Medium intensity. Very brisk and lively and somehow coppery and burnished. Really lovely energetic drink for now. Who would have thought that the 1974 could taste so good? Big and bold. Lovely balance despite having no reputation. Really vibrant. Very clean. Luscious. Long. (JR)

TA 4.5 g/l (sulphuric) RS 80 g/l.  Plenty of botrytis but rain intervened. Deep gold with the first signs of amber. Less aromatic than the 75 and more aromas of bottle age – especially the spice – than fruit though there's still a fine fresh streak through the middle thanks to quite high acidity . Pretty tight and still fresh but also a little bit harsh at the end.  (JH)
