Score 89/100 · Drink 0-0, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Complex though not squeaky-clean, high-toned nose combines black raspberry, cassis, old leather, tar, spice cake and licorice. Larger-scaled, fatter and lower in acidity than the '98; dense black fruit flavors show almost port-like maturity. Thick but currently rather monolithic. Finishes with big, lush tannins. Champet described this wine as "un peu nouveau" in style.
