Tasting notes
Coming from a high elevation site on Howell Mountain, the deep purple-colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is another 2016 that shines for its elegance and finesse just as much as for its power and richness. Offering up beautiful mountain notes of blueberries, pine forest floor, bay leaf, and damp earth, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a beautifully seamless, layered texture, no hard edges, and a great finish.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Somnium has come together very nicely during aging, although it remains quite virile and imposing in feel. Powerful, dense and explosive, the 2016 is a wine of real character. Grilled herb, charcoal, menthol and licorice bring aromatic intensity to this dark, potent Cabernet Sauvignon from the lower slopes of Howell Mountain.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep purple-black in color and intensely scented of of mocha, sautéed herbs and cigar box with a core of crème de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries and dried mulberries. Full-bodied, rich and decadent, it has loads of savory and black fruit preserves layers matched by a firm, chewy texture and long, expressive finish. 820 cases produced, to be released in September 2019.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a big step up from the 2015. Dark, powerful and brooding, the 2016 packs a real punch. Beams of tannin give the wine its shape and overall sense of direction. Black cherry, smoke, chocolate, licorice and new leather add aromatic intensity to this strapping, burly wine. There is plenty of personality here, that much is clear.
