From the highest-altitude parcel owned by Jaboulet and almost always the last to be picked, the 2020 Cornas Domaine de Saint Pierre is marked by scents of cedar, red plums and red raspberries. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated but not overly tannic. Stylistically, it reminds me of the Delas version (from a nearby parcel of vines), being a less muscular, more elegant version of Cornas.

Looking at the two Cornas releases, the 2020 Cornas Domaine De Saint Pierre is more medium-bodied, and elegant, with some obvious minerality. Coming from a cooler, higher elevation parcel, it has ample dark fruits, some roasted herbs, licorice, and meaty Cornas nuances, fine tannins, and a great finish.

Inky ruby. Smoky, mineral-accented cassis, cherry and olive scents show fine definition and an exotic spice flourish. Densely packed but energetic dark fruit preserve, allspice and licorice flavors are complemented by a candied violet accent, and a peppery nuance emerges with air. Shows excellent concentration and finishes with a bright mineral cut, youthfully gripping tannins and floral-dominated persistence. The Saint-Pierre lieu-dit is the highest altitude site in Cornas and Jaboulet owns a whopping 3.9 hectares of it; 20% new oak.

Rippling with blackberry aromas, but also notes of pomegranate and hibiscus, plus a slew of spice, this is a bold and powerful Cornas with quite a dense tannin structure. However, there’s nothing aggressive about it, which suggests you will have to wait years to enjoy the succulent side of this wine. From 3.9 hectares of 10 to 60-year-old syrah vines. From biodynamically grown grapes.
