Score 91-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2017

(the first vintage for this bottling, as these Domaine Gerbet vines just reverted back to the estate; 20% vendange entier and 40% new oak): Bright medium red. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, blueberry, violet and spicy oak reminded me a bit of a Napa Valley Cabernet. Dense and sweet but light on its feet for Suchots, with the dark berry fruit flavors accented by pepper, spices and firm minerality. Nicely delineated and airy in the middle palate, then juicy, savory and long on the aftertaste, with dark berry and spice flavors carrying impressively without losing their verve.

Reduction. There is a beguiling inner mouth perfume to the fresh, energetic and velvety medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by moderately firm tannins on the round and sophisticated finale that coats the mouth with dry extract. This is sufficiently structured that it will need at least 5-ish years or so first. Worth considering as this is really quite good.
