The 2012 Trossos Tros Blanc is pure Garnacha Blanca from a dry vintage that yielded 30% fewer grapes than previous years. This is from a single plot of old head-pruned vines on chalky soils, fermented in three 500-liter oak barrels where it stayed with the lees for 10 months. I tasted this next to the 2013, and I found more depth here. I'm not usually a fan of warm vintages but it seemed to work for this plot. It's well-oaked but it has strong aromas of yellow flowers and plenty of leesy-nutty notes. The plate is compact with lively, juicy fruit and is supple. It should develop nicely in bottle. 1,681 bottles produced.

The 2012 Trossos Sants is an old-vine blend of 90% Garnacha Blanca and the rest Garnacha Gris with the aromas from the wood neatly folded into the yellow and white fruit and strong notes of aniseed and fennel, which give the wine great freshness. The palate is clean and balanced, with pungent flavors and a dry, persistent finish. A great Mediterranean white with enough stuffing and acidity to age in bottle. Drink now-2017. Alfredo Arribas has the help of Joan Asens of Orto Wines, who for years worked for Alvaro Palacios in Priorat. He produces wines in Montsant and Priorat under different, changing names, Portal del Montsant and Portal del Priorat among them. Very well-crafted wines.
