Tasting notes
The 2015 Saint-Aubin feels a little reductive on the nose and quite stern and steely in style, but it seems to open with aeration. The palate is straightforward, offering lightly honeyed peach and orange zest notes, a smooth texture and a dab of ginger toward the finish. It lacks a little tension but is well-crafted and typical for the vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru les Champlots offers similar minty aromas to the Les Frionnes, although here I find more mineralité and terroir expression being expressed. Similarly, whilst the palate is in that rich quasi-honeyed vein, the acidity seems higher and overall there is better balance and tension. It gently fans out towards the finish, opulent but nicely focused. This is worth seeking out.
