1983 Chambolle Musigny

This wine is full of charm and elegance without the excess of tannin one so often finds in the wines of this vintage. Barthod's style of winemaking produces rather lightly colored wines that are much more flavorful and rich than their color suggests. Not surprisingly, this wine was rather light in color, particularly for a 1983, but one whiff of the rather rich, complex, fruity, smokey, spicy bouquet leaves no doubt that some serious wine is in the glass. It is a rather ripe, fat, fleshy wine with surprisingly soft tannin. Though somewhat hard to resist right now, 4-6 years will reveal additional pleasures.
