Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Eric Guido, Vinous, Feb 2024

The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella wafts up with a remarkably pretty blend of dried rose and violets, giving way to dried black cherries and a dusting of cocoa. This is surprisingly juicy and energetic, with silken textures and depths of mineral-tinged wild berry fruits that add a crunchy sensation toward the close. Notably fresh, this tapers off with a bitter note while a coating of fine-grained tannins provides a pretty framework.

The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella is darkly alluring and intense, bursting from the glass with an array of crushed black cherries, sage, stone dust and dark chocolate. It sweeps across the palate, vibrant and lively, with masses of salty minerals and depths of dark wild berry fruits, taking on a distinctly savory quality toward the close. The 2019 finishes gently tannic and incredibly long, leaving rosy inner florals and a saline tinge that lingers on and on and on. The 2019 is simply stunning and geared for a long and steady evolution. (EG)
