La Morra. Tasted blind. Dark ruby with orange tinges. Herbal and a little closed. Fine concentrated cherry over a layer of firm, grainy tannins. Subdued – yet long and gripping. (WS)

Corino's 2014 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata shows why this is such a privileged site. Deep, ample and intense, the 2014 is young, raw and not fully formed, and yet it offers considerable potential. Succulent red cherry, rose petal, mint, chalk and white pepper give the wine its signature aromatic lift and brightness. Here, too, the wine's persistence is notable.
