Score 89-91/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018
(from 55-to-60-year-old vines on clay soil with some rocks; the frost cut production by 70%): Saturated ruby-red. Brooding, lightly medicinal aromas of black fruits, spices and minerals suggest a very tight wine. Quite concentrated but with an inviting plummy sweetness; a bit high-toned in a positive way. Here the late-arriving tannins are nicely supported by fruit. A complex, dark style of Volnay from the Pommard side of the appellation, finishing with lovely soil-driven length.
