Score 95/100 · Drink 2007-2017, Robert Parker, Aug 2007

The 2005 Syrah BMT is a blend of 50% Syrah from the Three Creek Vineyard, 25% Syrah from the Colson Canyon site, and 25% Grenache from Colson Canyon. Revealing a sweeter, more succulent character, it is the most open-knit of these rather broodingly thick, backward wines. A touch of kirsch adds sweetness to the aromatic and flavor profiles. The color is an opaque ruby/purple, and the wine exhibits plenty of black cherry liqueur notes interwoven with blackberries, licorice, pepper, roasted herbs, and smoke. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, this is a beauty to enjoy over the next 10+ years. I tasted through a number of the 2006 single vineyard cuvees, and they all looked slightly lighter, but very fruit-forward. They will probably be more charming in their youth, without the weight, density, and structure of the 2005s. Tel. (805) 688-6761; Fax (805) 688-0591

(for 1.5 liters; 15.2% alcohol; includes 25% grenache) Bright ruby. Perfumed nose offers blackberry, violet, fresh herbs and pepper; very Old World. Then sweet, thick and chewy, with a creamy grenache texture to the flavors of dark berries, pepper and licorice. This round fruit bomb shows lovely building sweetness on the finish, with piquant licorice and pepper nuances providing lift.
