Tasting notes
The dense ruby-colored 1997 Barolo exhibits a complex bouquet of rose petals, melted tar, cherry liqueur, and Parmesan cheese. Full-bodied, ripe, dense, and chewy, with adequate acidity, ripe, mature tannin, and a 30-40-second finish, this big, old style, robust Barolo will continue to develop for 10-15 years. Bright medium ruby. Sweet, ripe, spicy aromas of raspberry, camphor and licorice; slightly roasted but still fresh. Fat and deep, with a lush texture and chewy sweetness. Clean flavors of spicy red fruits and mint. Finishes quite long, spicy and subtle, with unusually fine tannins for a Barolo from this producer. I find this much more successful than the '96 version.
