Wafting from the glass with scents of cassis and plums mingled with forest floor and pencil shavings, the 2016 Moulin-Rouge is medium to full-bodied, supple and lively, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet tannins and bright acids. Seamless and elegant, it's a terrific effort, one of this château's finest in recent years.

Warm berry-pastry aromas with mulberries and boysenberries, too. The palate has a long, supple and juicy feel with a wealth of rich berries. Plenty to offer here, this has a plush array of ripe dark fruit, driving the palate long and true. A blend of 50 per cent merlot, 40 per cent cabernet sauvignon and ten per cent cabernet franc.
The 2016 Château du Moulin Rouge has a well defined, quite focused bouquet that just needs to give more sense of energy and vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, quite edgy tannin. Modest depth towards the finish, this is a taut and linear 2016, although there is a little herbaceousness coming through on the finish, albeit in a positive sense. Give it a couple of years in bottle. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.
50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc. Prominent toasted-oak aromas, chewy tannic structre and quite pinched fruit. Seems pretty lean and mean to me. (RH)
