The Romanée Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is often one of my favorite wines in this range, as it is once again in 2019. Gracious and light on its feet, the 2019 is a magical wine. Sweet red berry fruit, orange peel, tobacco and cedar are beautifully lifted throughout. The RSV is a Burgundy of sublime precision and nuance. As far as I am concerned, the tasting could end here. The 2019 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru is another spectacular rendition of this routinely profound cuvée. Wafting from the glass with aromas of raspberries, cherries, rose petals, peonies, violets, incense, orange oil and exotic spices, it's full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a broad attack and a layered, multidimensional mid-palate. Seamless and complete, it's a sensual, intensely perfumed wine that ranks among Lalou Bize-Leroy's greatest achievements to date.
Cask sample. Quite subtle nose. Very juicy. A saline streak and lots of stoniness. Firm, tannic and for the long term. (JR)
