Full medium ruby. Complex, expressive aromas of raspberry, violet, gunflint, iron and mocha. Then superripe, dense and chewy, with notes of maple syrup, salt and pepper. A sweet, broad wine with a slightly aggressive back end. A rather successful example of the thick, saline style of Australian shiraz.

The 2001 Shiraz Hanisch Vineyard’s perfume is reminiscent of some of the great Diamond Creek Cabernets of the mid and late-seventies. Scorched earth, creme de cassis, blackberry, licorice, and smoky aromas emerge from this dense purple-colored Shiraz. Opulent, rich, and full-bodied, with more forward fruit than the Heysen cuvee, and a 45-second finish, this stunning effort should be at its finest between 2005-2016.
