Tasting notes
Another magnificent wine, the 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Combottes is precise, linear and finely sculpted to the core. The flavors and textures are beautifully delineated throughout. Dark blue and purplish-hued stone fruit, lavender and mint are all pushed forward, but it is the wine's overall poise that is most impressive of all. Expressive and pedigreed, the Combottes is one of the highlights in this lineup. Readers who can find it should not hesitate, as it is terrific.

A wonderfully fresh, airy and expressive nose is composed by notes of red cherry, anise, plum, underbrush and newly turned earth. The delicious, round, generous and naturally sweet medium-bodied flavors culminate in a firm, dazzlingly complex and superbly long finish. This satin-textured effort is, at its essence, a wine of finesse yet there is enough sleek muscularity and punch present to confirm that it's a Gevrey. Drink 2029+
