A brilliant, medium/lighter gold-hued Sauternes, the 2020 Château Bastor-Lamontagne offers outstanding aromatics of canned peaches, honeyed pineapple, and floral, tropical nuances on the nose. It's medium-bodied on the palate and has a nicely focused, straight profile, good balance, and outstanding length. It's drinking nicely today yet should have another 15 years or more, especially if well stored. Drink 2026-2041.

Tasted blind. Ripe lemon and a touch of sour apricot and spice. Better freshness than some. Sweet and yet not cloying. Relatively simple but sweetness and acidity are balanced. (JH)
The 2020 Bastor-Lamontagne has a straightforward nose with wild honey, acacia, orange blossom and yellow fruit. The palate is well balanced with a tangy entry, the acidity maintaining freshness throughout. It’s not complex, but it delivers attractive honey, quince and stem ginger notes on the finish. Fine. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

This Sauternes estate was acquired by the Cathiard family of Ch. Smith Haut Lafitte in 2014. Located not too far from Ch. Suduiraut, the property has 52 hectares of vines in a single block.
