Tasting notes
The classic – and, in many people’s eyes, ultimate – expression of Volnay, Caillerets is a site with very little topsoil. The 2023 bottling from Boillot is delicate, with sweet red cherry fruit, pink peppercorns and crushed florals. It’s juicy and bright on the palate, with a savoury tea-leaf character and creamy note that comes through on the finish. Raspberry and Earl Grey tea play on the long finish, with fine chalky tannins lending structure.

A darker crimson colour, and the fruit too has added a darker note. Black raspberries, a little fresher red fruit further back on the palate, concentrated, tannins present but ripe, fair length. Perhaps this could have been picked a couple of days earlier.
About the producer

Based in Meursault and farming some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, Henri Boillot is a leading address in Burgundy. He crafts fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, but the estate is best known for its flagship monopole vineyard, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Clos de la Mouchère.
