Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur from Rossignol-Trapet has a fleshy ripe raspberry and strawberry scented bouquet that is showing a little more oak than its peers, but it is still in sync with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin. The purity here is very appealing - pretty Gevrey-Chambertin that is easy-drinking thanks to its smoothness, though just lacks a little complexity. Enjoy over the next 6-8 years.

Ripe and more savoury than the Beaune Teurons, darker fruited. Texture is dry, fine, verging on austere but just finely balanced. (JH)
