The 2001 Echézeaux from Mugneret-Gibourg came from a magnum directly from the domaine. It has an elegant bouquet with joyful red berry fruit, wild mushroom, hints of caramel and sage, all very well defined. This is poised and well balanced with commendable weight, demonstrating more sucrosity than I would have expected and endowed with a persistent, slightly piquant finish. Not bad, although I believe the domaine creates better wines these days. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.

An outstanding effort, the 2001 Echezeaux offers aromas of cherries, spices, and earth. Medium-bodied, fleshy, and feminine, it reveals waves of very pretty cherries in its lengthy character. Drink it by 2012. Importer: A Peter Vezan Selection, Paris fax #011-33-1-42-55-42-93
Good full, deep red. Vibrant aromas of raspberry, minerals, violet, tobacco and mint; I might have picked this blind as coming from Chambolle-Musigny. Bright, sharply delineated and primary, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic lift and a note of licorice. Finishes firmly tannic, bright and long, with a distinctly perfumed character.
Bright, dark red-ruby. Aromatic nose of plum, fresh herbs, mint and tobacco leaf. Full, layered and sweet, but with a menthol coolness. Aromatic, pure and perfumed in the middle. A sexy, harmonious wine with sweet tannins and excellent length.
