Score 93/100 · Drink 2024-2038, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2022

The 2018 Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano offers a very pretty, floral expression of this Neive site. Rose petal, cinnamon and blood orange all grace the effusive, inviting bouquet. Lithe and silky in the glass, the 2018 is bright, vibrant and beautifully balanced. Time in the glass brings out its natural breadth, but, all things considered, this is a pretty understated wine from Albesani. Drink it over the next 15-20 years.

Neive. Grapes came from the historic Santo Stefano vineyard within this large cru. Tasted blind. Just mid ruby with watery, orange-tinged rim. Cumin and cherry on the nose and with hints of tobacco leaf. Tangy and concentrated palate with supporting, ripe, supple tannins. Long and beautifully balanced and can already be approached. (WS)
