2018 Vosne Romanee

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village bursts with aromas of ripe berries, spices, grilled squab, dark chocolate and toasty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, broad and muscular, with chewy tannins cloaked in a ripe core of fruit. This is quite a structured communal bottling from Drouhin, and it will merit a bit of bottle age.

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée Village has a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, some whole-bunch addition adding a subtle pepperiness. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, pliant tannins that frame the red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit. It fans out nicely with a pinch of black pepper that draws out the finish. This is a very capable Village Cru from Drouhin.

Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Stunning red-fruited perfume here. Floral and fruity in the extreme. Fine and finely chewy tannins, scented on the palate, with the dry character that it is hard to get in combination with this scentedness outside of the Côte d’Or. Pure, pretty but with depth as well. Long and moreish with the freshness to balance. (JH)
