(100% destemmed): Sexy, slightly exotic aromas of red fruits, white peach, smoke and flowers. Precise and energetic, conveying strong mineral energy to its tightly wound dark fruit and smoke flavors. In spite of the wine's slightly exotic nose, it has the lowest pH of any of these 2013s and finished its malo last. In a very fresh, food-friendly style, leaving the salivary glands quivering. A terrific showing today.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Rouge du Dessus was completely destemmed and there is just one new barrel this year (from the Bertrange cooper, as Cecile felt that her usual barrel maker's influence would be too strong). The fruit appears to handle the oak well on the nose, subsuming it with its lifted wild strawberry and dark cherry aromas, light marine influences following suit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite lithe tannins and nicely judged acidity and salinity. It will need three or four years to absorb the wood, so keep it for 3 or 4 years (if you can find a bottle).

One new fût, no whole bunch. Picked two weeks later than the Beaux Monts despite being very close. In 2013 they picked quite early. Rich and smells of smoky cordite. Not quite the energy of the Feusselottes but pretty flattering and engaging. Smoky even. Tangy and vegy finish. Just as well there were no stems in here! (JR)
