Score 91-93/100 · Drink 2020-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Champeaux is a little different than the other cuvées according to Pierre Duroché—more silky in texture. It has a slightly more exotic bouquet compared to the Aux Etelois, hints of overripe Satsuma sitting in a vase complementing the crushed strawberry and red cherry aromas. This feels very sensual. The palate is very well balanced with a soft texture on the entry that belies the structure underneath. There is that faint touch of licorice here (like the Jeunes Rois) and a long aftertaste with a sprinkling of white pepper tingling on the tongue. Excellent—this is a worthy follow-up to the 2015 Les Champeaux.
