The 2014 Bellevue has a tertiary, leafy bouquet, nicely defined if just lacking a little vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, chewy tannin, blackberry and raspberry fruit but there is some astringency towards the finish that does not beckon you back for another sip. To be frank, I have tasted much better wines from this estate that lies opposite Château Angélus. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Tasted blind. Sweet, floral nose. Polished, very fluid mouthful. Just a tiny bit lean. Though the (very clean) finish is impressive. (JR)

The 2014 Bellevue is dark, plush and inviting. Black cherry, espresso, smoke, licorice, tobacco and bittersweet chocolate notes give the wine its distinctly modern, sumptuous feel. This is an especially powerful, ripe style. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later. Tasted two times.

100% Merlot. Picked 4-24 October. Minerally nose. Sweet start and then a bit dry on the end. Sumptuous. Really quite drying on the end. (JR)
